While out on the runway this morning I ran into an older gentleman that was explaining how the Lockheed Electra that I was shooting was actually the plane used in Casablanca at the end of the movie (about 4 min from the end). The story was interesting but after doing some research – it seems that there is more to the story – see the link at the end if you want to read about it.

While I was shooting I decided to shoot in Black&White and then later in post I actually converted to old sepia toned paper – this was inspired by the gentlemans story.

True or not – it made the photos more special to me. I hope you enjoy them.

A beautiful plane no matter what the “real” story is. Here is the link if you want to read more.

  1. Love the choice of the prints in sepia.

  2. Nice!

“Play it again Sam, you played it for her, now play it again for me.”

  3. Bill Fortney: I own a copy of the original Casablanca screen play. Mr. Rick never utters the line “Play it again, Sam.” Urban legend. The actual line to Sam is: “If she can stand it, I can. Play it!” See page 62 of the original 6/13/42 screen play.
FWIW, I have seen the movie about 15 times. And the airplane was great. Thanks, guys!

  4. I stand duly corrected! So, “if she can stand it, I can. Play it.” Now being a Kentucky Hill Billy, if I’d a written the script it a been Like this, ” That thur song you done sung, sang it agin!, right Purdue like!”
